Segmented Farm

Segmented Farm

A home that references some of the typically Highveld vernacular materials and proportions but applies it in a modern way with a segmented plan, and concrete connecting roofs

The volume of spaces in this design is a direct response to the farm style aesthetic. Narrower and higher volumes give this home its typically farm proportions. The segmented nature of the plan divides it in functional spaces, with the passage connections in between the segments. Carefully chosen materials give the home a coherent feel, even though the plan is segmented

Materials such red face-brick, natural stone, corrugated roofing, and steel supports are all typically used within the farm style aesthetic. The materials are also used on the interior, giving the home a very grounded feel with its surroundings and exterior

The home creates a private living space with pool and garden from a typical lean-to stoep connecting to the main living space volume. The bedrooms take advantage of the open green area to the back of the property, with integrated pause and reading spaces. A simple but sophisticated family home
