Cascading
Dug into a deep and stretched-out site, designed around a frameless glass dining room bridge, connecting two main volumes. This contemporary home cascades down the steep slope across various levels defined by their various functions. It presents modestly to the street; a floating hidden entrance accented by sculptural steel elements welcoming visitors with expansive, uninterrupted views. The entrance leads from a ground level on the street, over a floating bridge to the Front door that is set back beyond the street volumes. The front door enters into the upper level of the home, and immediately makes you aware of the elevation above the natural slope.
The home takes advantage of the views, by having a somewhat upside-down layout. The main living areas and kitchen are on this upper level, and connects to the lower level by means of a hidden staircase from the lounge. All the rooms are placed and designed to be suite like, for privacy. The mian bedroom, lounge, kitchen and lounge balcony are at the best position for this. However, bedroom on the lower level also have a good view. Due to the drastic slope of the site.
A bonus entertainment room slots in underneath the one wing, and even from the ground level still allows great views. The pool and boma are also serviced from here. The bridge like dining room allows for additional kuier-space on the lower level. The garden follows the natural slope, in contrast with house that is propped up by slender steel elements. A very secluded PJ lounge come study sits above the 1 garage, accessed from the entrance foyer, with a unique view and balcony that faces the street.
The grey textured elevations are capped with slanted planes, with triple thin windows within, and intersected by strong horizontal and vertical lines. This angular theme is reflected through the entirety of the spaces. Floating slabs jut out over the descending slope for a dramatic position, to be enjoyed by the occupants. Steel in groupings of 3, in black, almost disappear when compared the heavy slabs. The grey theme is continued on the inside with the finishes al in complementing grey and black variations. The idea is for the interior décor and furnishings to have brown leather and timber accents.
