Nestled into an inside corner, splaying out from the street to a generous and private garden space. An endeavor at creating a second home for a client in a new location. Two dominating volumes culminate at the front door – accented by large, intersecting slabs and generous amounts of glass. Slightly askew slabs add to the already uncertainty of alignment of volumes; a result of the stand’s shape
The varying heights of the slabs are continued throughout the home and selectively infilled with muted, timber screens. A darker colour is concentrated at ground floor level which gives the first floor the appearance of floating especially from the overhanging master bedroom and additionally the balcony towards the street. Vertical, slanted stone elements are selectively placed to create continuity and a further extension of uncertainty of alignment
All the living spaces live towards the private portion of the garden, overlooking an extensive and well-equipped entertainment area. A large pool and boma on a parallel axis, acts as separation between the more “public” entertainment and “private” man cave and study; this axis is overshadowed by the askew main bedroom volume above
